I've Dated Everyone
Whoa...How long has it been since I've posted. Looks as though I have much to catch up on. If you ever miss me, you can find me a few times a week posting in the Wellness section of Nantucket Chronicle. Check out the whole site...I love it. It's especially wonderful for Nantucketers.
Now, onto some thoughts flying through my head lately...
Now, onto some thoughts flying through my head lately...
The older I get the more I come to the realization I’ve
dated every “type” of person. Out of all
of my suitors, there is one trait I see within musicians, poets, artists and
writers: Obsession. I have come to find
myself addicted to obsessive, intense and all consuming personalities. Intoxicated, I can’t help but drink them up...minus the creepy factor of course.
I'm currently obsessed with Graffiti6’s
song Free. I find it sums up what I've discovered to be a truth within this “type”; can’t live with and can’t
live without. Have you ever had your
heart torn from your body whether the person was near or far?

Love is Hard
As I am finishing up my new book, War on Love, I am in a continual cycle of revisiting my past love affairs. Which, at times, is very emotional for me. Everyday I write about love. Everyday I am engrossed in this topic. I write about it’s beauties and horrors. Making an effort to paint what true love really looks like. Often as I write, I am glad to be where I am currently. Glad to have moved on; free and clear. I am, of course, happy for these relationships; the lessons, the happiness and sorrow. Looking back, I am able to see that I was grateful to have loved and been loved as much as I have. I am still young, have more love to experience and learn about. I have have been fortunate enough to have loved enough for a 1000 lifetimes and it doesn't look like I will stop loving anytime soon.
During this reflective artistic period, there have been a few instances where I’ve contemplated, “Did I make the right decision? Am I in the right place? Is there hope if there's still love there?” As I write this book, I remember so many wonderful points in time. Flash memories play in my mind like a theater trailer...Staying up all night with Captain America. Not wanting to shut my eyes because I didn’t want to miss a second while laying next to him ... Listening to BigRed tell one of his larger than life stories. I could lose hours in my day listening to him ...Kissing Captain of the Industry under a willow tree in Boston Common. The sun peaking through the branches. Our hands interlocked. His smile warming my heart in the autumn air. I remember him brushing my hair off of my face. I felt his fingertips tickle my rosy cheeks.
Then I remember the pain...Waiting in the airport terminal for Captain America to call to say we’re making a huge mistake. Crying as I boarded the plane because I knew we really were finished... The final disappointment from BigRed that numbed my heart. I was disappointed in myself for trusting him once again... Then on the Captain of the Industry’s ocean-view balcony, staring into his eyes and not recognizing the man I had fallen in love with so many years before. How am I just now seeing the real him? There was a shadow of this man, distorted and irregular.
I know I’m not perfect...far from it. I have broken hearts. I have played silly games. I have been selfish. I have been cruel. BigRed held me to his chest as I hit him and told him to just leave me. The next morning, he said something that has stuck to my soul, “I almost got in my car and left you there to fend for yourself. Any other girl, I would have...but not my Doro. I could never leave you. So, here we are. What are we going to do now?” This was the very moment I realized how much of a jerk I can be and how someone can love despite the harsh reality of the situation.
At what point do we give up?
At what point do we say enough is enough?
At what point do we stay and fight?
I’ve come to the conclusion, over the years, that love is work. There are no guarantees that any of us will find happiness with the people we love. There are no magic formulas for relationships. No quick fixes or easy roads. You may never know when the right moment to give up or keep up the fight. When push comes shove, love is hard and sometimes it feels like we’re fighting a senseless battle in which no one truly wins or leaves without shedding blood.
“...The truth hurts and lies worse. How can I give anymore when I love you a little less than before...” - James Morrison...I have used James Morrison's music on multiple occasions. I love his music. I can't get enough of him!

December is the M.E Month
I tamed this gorilla...I'm that good. |
We have now entered the last month of 2011...Then it’s the last year in the Mayan Calender.
For the month of December, I feel it is only fitting to dub it the ME Month. M is for More and E is for Exploring. December 2011 is now officially the month of More Exploring. Explore life, have an open mind, help others and above all help yourself. Have more in your life. More new experiences. More love. Move time to yourself. More time with the ones you care about the most. More adventures big or small. More silliness. More laughter. I think you get the point. This month, more is more and you should have your fill!
Ways to get the most out of the M.E Month.
-Small town adventures: Get your friends together and do a scavenger hunt.
-Donate your time to your local community: Nothing feels better than helping someone else
-Wake up and decide to laugh all day
-Plan something just for you: Maybe it’s just an hour in a salt bath or maybe it’s a full weekend of doing nothing and talking to no one.
-Learn something new: Take a cooking class...My personal favorite was learning to make truffles!
-Listen to your heart in all matters, it always knows best.
-Don’t listen to people, do what feels right
-Do something that scares you
-Plan a trip around something you love: Can’t get enough of food. Plan a food road trip!
-Write your life “To Do” list: Start doing something on that list this month
-Explore the local library: I love spending time in the library. The smell of books, reading in a corner and then checking out a new book, it's an adventure for the mind.
-Take a chance in love: Don’t hold back if you really and truly love someone, tell them.
-Take a fitness challenge: I have heard doing Bikram Yoga for 30 days will change your life and your body. I’ve done it before and loved it...Try to find a studio that isn’t smelly...It can be hard to focus on holding a position when you smell something funky in the room.
-Say Yes To Everything: Have you seen the movie Yes Man? He changed his life with one simple word, Yes. It’s a funny movie and I love the meaning behind it.
Your world is about to open up and change for the better. Take a risk. Be ready for it by knowing that there are great rewards in pushing your limits and seeing how far your spirit will take you. Enjoy ME Month!

When a Lover Writes For You
I used to say I would marry the man that writes me a song. I really meant, I would marry the man that writes me a love ballad of some sort. I will admit, I was always hoping for a song on a happier note. While going through some of my things, I came across this beautiful verse from an old flame. We used to exchange poems to each other, it's how we communicated our feelings. After we broke up he wrote me a song, not sure if it ever hit the charts. Music can hit memory cords within us. Remind us how far we've come and how far we have to go.
...She collects lovers like photographs
A captured moment with you,
She displays the frame on her mantel.
She's neither coming nor going
But somehow she's always on your mind.
She gives her heart freely
And leaves you just the same.
You'll want her forever
It's all apart of her game...

Lunch In Paris
“While still in my bed, my thoughts turn to you, my Immortal Beloved.” I am listening to Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 5 in E-Flat Major, while I drink my latest smoothie creation and I read my new book, Lunch in Paris. I have only just begun the story of this woman’s love affair with her new man, her new city and her love affair with French cuisine. Her descriptions have scratched my memories of the past 10 years. A time machine, bouncing me around through my own love affairs, food I have experienced around the world and of course, Paris. It allows me to reflect on my current year and how lucky that I have been these past few months. If you love food and you want to be transported to a new city without leaving your current town, (Or you are unable to leave your city for whatever reason.) then may I suggest picking up this book. I am only just beginning my affair and already I am in lust.

My New Favorite Band - The Civil Wars
On my mini road trip this weekend my friend, The Energizer Bunny, was playing a cd. It was about two in the morning and their voices blended together so smooth, sexy and ghost like, it was absolutely perfect timing. I have heard their music before but it wasn't until this moment that their melodies made an impact on me.
The next day I asked him what was the name of that band. "The Civil Wars...Such a cool story. They were two separate artists trying to make it in Nashville. They had the same producer whom suggested that they meet."
I have been hooked these past few days. Here are a few of their videos. I hope you enjoy it as much as I...
Coming Soon: Photos and videos from The Life is good Festival...Interview with a Married Man...Stress and Meditation...The Smoothie that changed my me...Amazing Love Diet...War on Love...And I have an exciting announcement!

Holy Amazing!

Here is a photo of my Father and I. I'm in ass-less leather chaps...my Dad was in leather from head to toe. A family that wears leather together, stays together! |
I having been having the best weekend! I had an interview with a married man and was able to get some pretty amazing love, relationship and marriage advice. (I will post the interview soon!) I was up at the crack of dawn for a motorcycle ride down south for my cousin's engagement party. (I'm sipping on a bloody mary right now...my aunt makes the best!) Tonight I will be dancing up a storm with me family. Someone just walked in with a karaoke machine, so you know something weird is about to happen. Then, tomorrow off to the festival! Let the craziness begin...oh wait, it already has. I hope everyone is enjoying themselves...Stay tuned for my Interview with a Married Man. So far, it could be my favorite blog post ever!

My Brother - Eli Stover - The Musician
I thought I would shamelessly promote my brother, Eli Stover. He's a talented musician and song writer. Here is a video of the Plum TV interview. Check out some of his music on Myspace, 7Sharp or "Like" him on Facebook, Eli Stover. Plus, ladies he's easy on the eyes!

Don't let the sound of the ticking clock speed or slow you down. |
I never know where my daily feel good moment is going to come from. Recently, I got a message from BigRed, “A good laugh. How about a 50lb weight limit and my gear bag weighing 53lb. I just ate all my cliff bars and am now wearing 3 coats.” I couldn’t help but laugh picturing BigRed stressing out at the check in counter at the airport and then having to move to the side, put on all his coats and eat 20 cliff bars. (I know it’s around 20 bars because I’ve helped him pack for trips like this.) BigRed, it could be time for your company to start making your own bars. This way you won’t have to buy these tasty treats from someone else. We chatted for a bit on his next mountain climbing adventure, six different countries over the course of a few weeks.
Lazy Girl: “You’re a lucky guy. I want to go to there!”
BigRed: “No luck. We all put ourselves exactly where we want to be. Blog that. You can come if you like.”
Lazy Girl: “I'll get over there soon. You read my blog?”
BigRed: “Of course. I think it’s great.” (This made me feel special that an ex likes to read my blog.)
BigRed is right about the fact that we are all exactly where we put ourselves. When we were dating he was constantly saying to me, "Just do it already. Don't think about it, just do it!" For me, I have always made calculated risks. It may seem I'm spontaneous and I change my mind often but really when I make my mind up I stick with it and when I take a risk I need the time to think about it and be 100% in. BigRed does have a point, we are where we are today because our actions put us here, just do it already. The only person in charge of your thinking is you! The most powerful thing in this world is a thought. Thoughts can grow and change who we are and who we will become. Just because yesterday you were living in your car or you are dealing with a heartache doesn’t mean things will not change for you. I believe in positive thinking and positive actions. If you keep moving towards a positive focus, you will always be on the right path. When my Father was teaching me to drive he had a few words of wisdom.
PappaBear: “Keep your eye on the road. Whatever you are looking at you will drive towards. So if you’re staring at that tree, you’re going to drive towards that tree.”
I think about what my Father said to me and I connect it to my life as well. Whatever I am focusing on, good or bad I am driving myself towards it. Another word of wisdom my Father instilled in me, “Driving is a privilege, not a right.” and “Speed will come with time.” This too, I connect to my life. It’s a privilege to be alive, so use your time wisely. And it’s ok to move slowly in life. Enjoy the ride...Do everything you want to do...Leave nothing out.

80s Music Videos
I love the 80s. Seriously, the movies and music from the 80s were some of the best! Sweet dance moves that I still break out on the dance floor stems from the 80s. Here is a favorite video, Separate Ways by Journey. This video was first introduced to me by a friend, you know who you are. When he showed me this video a few years ago, my world changed. I've always known the song but not the video. I love 80s music videos because they are borderline clueless and typically they make no sense. Why are these guys all following around one girl? Why is she hanging around on the docks just wondering around in kitten heals? Why are they playing air guitar and air piano? So many questions to have answered. I like to think of all the possibilities and reasoning behind this video. It's a fun past time. I hope you enjoy it as much as I.

Rain Rain Rain
I love it when it rains. Rain is magical and renews my spirit. It washes away dirt and grime. Rain produces the greenest grass. Laying in bed listening to the rain soon leads to waking up to sunshine. Whenever it rains I always find myself singing Bruce Hornsby's song Mandolin Rain.

Use your head Recycle!

Photo taken of the aftermath of 4th of July on Nobadeer Beach, Nantucket by Nicole Harnishfeger of The Inquirer and Mirror
I had to share this because my jaw dropped when I saw this photo. It's appalling, disrespectful and irresponsible, especially this day in age. This is bad advertising for Budlight, Coorslight and Svedka Vodka. Maybe liquor and beer companies need to add onto the "Please Drink Responsibly" line, "Please Recycle." If you brought it to the beach, you can dispose of it. It is lighter than when you lugged it to the beach after all.
What a bunch of duffel bags! Someone told me today that cops back in the day used to take down names and numbers and said if the beach wasn't clean they would all get a 'What For'. I just don't get it. Were the tears of The Crying Indian not heard?
