Endings and Beginnings

“The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else.” A close guy friend of mine told me this a few years ago when I was getting over a break up. I told him I couldn’t imagine loving anyone else. To which he said, “I didn’t say love. You need to find someone else to distract you.” Except in my world these “distractions” only magnify the person I am missing. In my little world, it is better to be alone and move on from the relationship before moving on with someone else.

Recently I have been thinking a lot about love and how I can’t live without it. The love can be everyday love, not necessarily from being “In Love”, although that is always the preference. I receive unconditional love from my cat Jack and I am completely head over heels in love with him. Almost every night and day I fall asleep or wake up with him in my arms. He follows me around the house and comes to me when I call him. He is my “little man”. I know someday I will not have him anymore, hopefully not anytime soon. I know that when that day comes I will be a complete mess, losing one of the loves of my life. Often when a friend loses an animal my first reaction is to go to the pet store and buy them another pet. Thus, continuing the theory of “get under someone else”. Is it a natural thing to automatically replace what is lost? The rebound relationship is never the same and can never replace the original. So why do we do it? Is it because being without the object of our affection is just too much to bear? Maybe when you love someone so much they become apart of you. An appendage of your being. If you were to amputate said appendage, it may no longer be there but you will always feel it on your person.

Life is a series of endings and beginnings.

The photo above is of Jack the Cat. He is seven years old, the terror of tiny town and one of the loves of my life. And no he is not winking at you, he only has one little eye :-)
